I love copywriting, but I also love interior design. I think my next career will be interior design! We moved into our home in Connecticut in June 2023, and I’ve slowly been designing our spaces. Recently I took on our guest/main floor bathroom refresh!
It’s a difficult layout with a long-skinny structure and two jack and jill doors. I had a budget of $700, so I knew I wouldn’t be replacing any countertops or sinks, but rather more surface-level stuff.
I have been going for a blue and red color palette with this home. I wanted it to feel like a rich, warm, inviting English manor house! This bathroom was no exception. I also knew I wanted to try wallpaper since my last home had very textured walls and I wasn’t able to try it.
I ordered a sample of the peel and stick wallpaper I used to make sure I liked it. Once I knew I did, I ordered more and got to work putting it up. It was definitely a labor of love and took several sessions of the course of a few weeks. But it wasn’t AS hard as I thought it would be, which is great because I would definitely like to wallpaper more rooms in my home. I will say I wish I had gone with one that had a simpler matching pattern, because it was tough to line up the pieces perfectly. Don’t look too close, ha!
I also attempted to take down a few of the tiles in the backsplash because I don’t love it. But they are attached using really strong, old adhesive grout that I knew I would not be able to remove myself without destroying the drywall. So one day down the road when we redo the countertops, I’ll have a pro remove the tiles, patch the drywall behind it, and apply new tiles.
Although I don’t LOVE the vanity light fixture, it isn’t too bad and I didn’t have the budget to replace it at this time. Here’s to living with what you’ve got and learning to like it, eh?
Overall, I’m super pleased with the new look I was able to accomplish for just $700 dollars. I genuinely had so much fun and feel really pleased with the space. I can’t wait to do the next one!
