If you’ve spent any time lately scrolling through social media (which you probably have unless you have superhuman self restraint), chances are you’ve seen sponsored ads for AI software that writes your copy for you.
Several people have asked me, “Will this stuff put flesh and blood copywriters like you out of a job, Micah?” (hi Mom 👋)
I totally get the concern. I do. But my answer is no. Why?
Because professional copywriters understand that copywriting is more than just inserting certain info into a box and clicking “Write.” It’s about so much more than pumping out strings of words that make sentences.
Great copywriters are brand strategists, user behavior specialists, marketing gurus, and messaging mavens. They understand how a specific piece of copy fits into a client’s overall messaging and business strategy or funnel. Can a piece of software do that? Nope!
Sure, I think there is potential for AI to write mediacore, low-level copy that stands on it’s own. And that’s totally fine! In fact, you can use it to save time on first drafts or to generate ideas when you’re feeling stuck.
But overall, I believe copywriting AI is a tool, not a takeover.
Let’s look at Canva, for example. It has democratized the ability to design graphics. Does Canva produce the same quality of work as a trained graphic designer? HELL NO! I paid a professional brand designer to create my logo and it’s a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind piece of art!
Worth every penny. Same goes for copywriting. The end! Comment your opinion below.
