Well well well, I must be getting old because I’m continually shocked by the passage of time; “Wait, it’s July ALREADY? It was just JUNE!”
I can’t believe my second full year in business (2.5 years if you count my moonlighting days) is already halfway over. As an enneagram 4 and deeply sensitive person, I love to reflect on and document the past as a way to grow in the future.
So, here is a mishmash of some of my accomplishments, reflections, joys, and challenges from the first and second quarter of 2022:
Finding out I am pregnant in February! We were trying for a baby, so we were extremely excited and also a tad terrified (first baby problems). I’ll never forget seeing that second line show up on the pregnancy test and knowing in my heart that my life will never be the same in the best possible way.
March, April, and May were some of my slowest months in business to date. I believe it was largely due to the fact that I was in my first trimester of pregnancy and not feeling my best physically or mentally. Some days I had to sleep for three hours each afternoon just to get by—and then 10 hours at night! I’m definitely glad the first trimester is behind me.
June was my best month in business to date! Funny how much of a rollercoaster this thing can be, right? I was able to use some of my revenue to invest in the services of a Reels expert and a Facebook ads course. I’m excited to see how those investments play out over the next few months.
I’ve been able to serve some amazing clients this year! Here are a few of the websites I’ve had the privilege of writing:
I’ve also had my fair share of difficult client projects for one reason or another, and I’ve had to learn how to deal with them in a professional, kind yet firm manner. I’ve implemented new systems, contract clauses, and template emails to communicate more clearly beforehand and help take some of the emotion out of those more difficult interactions (highly recommend spending some time doing this yourself for the future).
I attended my first creative conference in April and networked with other women running creative small businesses. As an introvert (post-COVID nonetheless), this experience definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone! I felt stretched in new ways and would definitely consider attending another creative conference or retreat next year after the baby comes.
Overall, it’s been a wonderful 6 months and I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months brings (other than a squishy new baby, that is!).
What are you most looking forward to in Q3 and Q4 this year?
