Ever asked a client to write a testimonial, and they wrote something like this: “Micah was great! She was really cool”?
Of course this sort of testimonial makes us feel warm and fuzzy, but it doesn’t do much to compel potential clients to work with us. Why?
Because it doesn’t show a transformation. Great testimonials have a story arch that answers these three questions:
When you ask someone for a testimonial, always ask them to answer these specific questions and then combine them into a testimonial statement. When you do, you’ll get testimonials like this:
“Writing copy for my website was just PAINFUL. I could never get it just right. Micah was able to take exactly what I wanted to say, but couldn’t, and turned it into something beautiful that I am proud to share. Micah is basically a copywriting magician. I wanted to cry, it was so perfect. I am proud for others to view my website now that I have an ‘about me’ section that isn’t BLAH anymore!”
^An actual client testimonial from my client Gabrielle! Hear the difference? Now that is a testimonial that will sell for you.
