If you had to choose, what is the best decision you’ve made in your personal life?

Here’s mine: Dropping out of a graduate program in Germany and moving in with my parents.

Huh? 

In the summer of 2018, I was preparing to leave for a two year grad program in Germany. Then I met a man I liked. I started dating him. Aaaannndd then six weeks later I left on a plane. 

We kept dating long-distance. The program was okay, but it wasn’t the exact right fit. I was falling for this guy more and more each day and, although he was super supportive, I just didn’t want to do long distance for two more years. 

But there was a pit in my stomach. How could I quit something I’d invested so much time, money, and energy into? What would people think of me? Was I throwing away an opportunity for a relationship that possibly wouldn’t work out?

In February, I talked to an old friend and told him my heart was telling me to quit, but my head was telling me to stay out of fear of what other people would think.

You know what he said?

“Micah, nobody cares.”

HA!

But he was so right. So I quit my program, bought a plane ticket, and moved home to my parents house. And, surprise surprise, nobody cared (at least not in the bad way).

Reader, I married that man a year later.
(and now we have a lil baby!)

Sometimes quitting is the best decision we can make. The grad program wasn’t bad per se, but it wasn’t the BEST thing for me. I’ve never regretted it for a second, and I’m so glad I had the courage to make that decision.

I’m also so glad I had the courage to quit my job when I wasn’t being treated appropriately and decided to pursue my business instead of looking for a new ‘real job.’
