As the saying goes, “Hindsight is 20/20.” Growing up, I never knew what I wanted to be. I really didn’t. My parents were in ministry, which wasn’t a fit for me, and I honestly didn’t know much about the professional world until I graduated college. I stumbled through a series of less than stellar jobs that never felt quite right for a few years post-grad, and then I found copywriting. Almost immediately, I knew I loved it and that I would be good at it. Sounds haughty, but it’s true. I just had an unflappable feeling that I. was. a. copywriter. Have you ever felt that way? Now looking back, I am SURE the universe knew I was destined to be a copywriter through and through.

Here are three reasons I know I was destined to be a copywriter:

1. I’ve always been naturally curious about people’s lives (some might even say a little ~nosy~ at times). But it’s the #1 affect I draw on as a copywriter. Great words are empathy-led, story-driven, and personality-packed. Check and mate.

2. I’ve always been a documenter. I had a blog before they were cool, an IG in the early days, a DSLR camera to take photos and make short films, 10 diaries going at the same time. I’m naturally inclined to document my life and others’ lives. I can see story arcs out of (practically) nothing, which comes in handy when I’m writing an About page or email!

3. I’ve always been very sensitive and hyper-aware of what’s going on around me. I notice everything, which makes me a great researcher. When you’re my client, I stalk your socials, website, emails, everything to find those common threads to pull from for your copy. Nothing slips through the cracks 👀
