Writing good website copy is hard. Writing GREAT website copy is even harder and takes lots of practice. However, there are a few simple ways to upgrade your website copy today to make a notable difference in the way it looks, sounds, and converts browsers into inquiries or buyers. So, without further ado, here are five easy ways to take your website copy from blah to bangin’:
- Remove the word “Updates” from your email sign-up form
I’m sorry, but nobody wants your updates. Updates are boring and YOU-centric. Make sure you convey the value people will receive when they sign up for your email list by saying something like “Sign up for tips, tricks, and resources to grow your business.”
- Add testimonials to your Home page, About page, and Services page
Many people make the mistake of only adding testimonials to one page of their website, but it’s important to include them on MULTIPLE pages because people get closer and closer to making an action decision as they progress through your website. A killer testimonial on the Services page just might push them over the proverbial inquiry edge.
- Add sub-headlines to sandwich your headlines
Sub-headlines add structure to a page, convey information, and inject personality into your copy. Don’t shy away from sub-headlines, guys!
- Add more detailed questions to your Contact form
Instead of just getting the bare bones details, make sure you add detailed questions into your Contact form to help people better define and articulate their needs. I wrote a whole blog post about this here!
- Break up large chunks of copy with 3-5 bullet points
People skim on the internet. Like, all the time. So don’t overwhelm the eye with large, never-ending chunks of copy. If you have several important points to convey, do so in bullet points. Make sure you don’t add more than 5, though, because then people will revert to skimming!
Happy website updating, friend!
